Hello! I’m
Karen McGuire and I’m one of the two receptionists
(and self-anointed Drama Queen) here at Resources On Call,
so there’s a very good chance that I have spoken
with all of you at some point in the past 11 months that
I’ve been here. As crazy as the phones can get (my
record for answered phone calls in one day is 416!) I
TRULY love my job. Lately it’s expanded by quite
a bit into helping to fill in for our Marketing Coordinator
who is out on medical leave. Marketing is a challenge
I’ve quickly learned to enjoy, and I fully appreciate
and am thankful to our Coordinator’s great sense
of organization and very detailed notes that she left
as a great safety net for while she’s out. I’ve
only had one minor incident with the laminator involving
some burns and lost fingernails (do those grow back quickly?)
while doing marketing (hey, I did say I was a Drama Queen!).
Personally, I’ve been in the Hickory region since
1991 when I came to Lenoir-Rhyne College, where I majored
in Communication and minored in Theatre. I met my husband
my junior year, and we’ve been very happily married
since 1995 (it helps that he’s such a great guy
too!). He’s a private investigator, so when I’m
not working 8 to 5 here at ROC I help him with his business,
and yes, that includes going on surveillance sometimes
with him - which is really cool. We have 3 amazing kids
- my stepson just got his drivers license (I had no idea
how old that would make me feel till that happened!),
and our two “princesses” who are both so beautiful
inside and out - one who’s seven going on seventeen,
and my other who believes she’s all grown up at
four. I just wish I could freeze them all at their current
ages!!
In my spare time when I have it, I love to cook. I am
a HUGE, I repeat, HUGE fan of Food Network’s Paula
Deen. I’m also an obsessive compulsive scrapbooker.
My favorite season/holiday is Christmas, and I shop all
year for ornaments and decorations for in my house - I’ll
probably be adding decorations right up through Christmas
